How Do I Know I've Found The Perfect Home?

by Jessica Henrichsen

When my husand and I were shopping for our first home, we worked with our real estate agent to make a list of "needs" and "wants" in a home. For example, we knew that we needed a specific location, at least 3 bedrooms, a 2 car garage, and a large fenced in backyard for our dogs. We wanted at least 1500 square feet and a one story house, but being a military family we sometimes have to remain flexible on our wants and prioritize location and budget. When we found a house that met most of our needs and wants, my husband knew it was the one right away whereas I needed a little convincing. It was not 1500 square feet and it was a two story house. There were these blue blinds throughout the house and I said, "those have got to go!" We purchased the home, the blue blinds stayed, and we made so many memories in that house during our short 4 year stay.

With our most recent home purchase, we walked in the home and within 30 seconds I was on the phone with my lender to get the paperwork ready to put in an offer.

Every experience and everyone's experience will be different. Some people scour every inch of the home before deciding it is "the one." Some buy site unseen. Some have a gut feeling.

Here are some factors that homebuyers may consider when determining whether they have found the perfect home:

  1. Meets their needs: The perfect home should meet the needs of the homebuyer in terms of the number of bedrooms, bathrooms, square footage, and other important factors that will make their daily life comfortable.

  2. Location: The location of the home should be convenient for the homebuyer, whether it be in a particular neighborhood, school district, or close to amenities that are important to them.

  3. Price: The home should be priced within the homebuyer's budget and be a good value for the area.

  4. Layout and design: The layout and design of the home should be appealing to the homebuyer and meet their aesthetic preferences.

  5. Condition: The home should be in good condition, with no major repairs or renovations required in the immediate future.

  6. Feeling of "home": Ultimately, the homebuyer should feel a strong sense of connection to the home and envision themselves living there and creating memories for years to come.

It is important to note that the definition of the "perfect" home may vary from person to person, and what feels perfect to one homebuyer may not feel the same for another. It is essential for homebuyers to take their time, consider their needs and preferences, and work closely with a trusted real estate agent to find a home that meets their unique requirements.
